Hollywood Research

The American film industry also known more commonly as ‘Hollywood’ is one of the oldest film industries, starting from the 1900’s and growing ever since. Hollywood actually refers to a small section of Los Angeles, close to Sunset Boulevard starting out in the October of 1911. The industry started growing from there and by the 1930’s became a one of the leading film distributors and producers in the United States, producing up to 600 films a year.

Today the industry produces hundreds of films from various studio’s like ‘Walt Disney Studios’ and ‘Paramount Pictures’ and much more. The industry produces films of multiple genres, with the most popular (at least during award season ) being dramas or biographies. Other popular genres also include comedy, action, horror and even musicals. Two more genres to gain recent popularity are also indie movies and superhero movies with the latter earning big at the box office.

The industry also rewards the best films with several accolades, most popular among them being; ‘The Golden Globes’ and ‘The academy Awards’, hosted by the ‘Hollywood Foreign Press’ and ‘The Association of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ respectively and a new category of ‘Best Popular Film’ being announced for the 91st Academy Awards.

Many favorite directors include the likes of Steven Spielberg, Orson Wells and Christopher Nolan. While famous movies like Gone with the wind, The GodFather and Moonlight share a similar limelight.

Although Hollywood is not just about films, but TV shows as well (Although all of them are not restricted to Hollywood) . Channels like HBO, ABC and even online platforms like Netflix produce enourmous amounts of content each year. Shows like ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Veep’ and ‘Orange is the New Black’ recieve high critical praise each year. With new ( and often really high budget ) shows popping up each year, this section of the industry shows no signs of slowing down !

Today, is not just an film industry but also a huge player in the socio-political landscape. Perhaps the most prominent campaign to come out in years, The Times Up Movement, which sparked up a nation-wide campaign against sexual harrasment in all sectors of life and even leading to many big name actors, directors and producers coming in the light for their actions. Aside from this many Hollywood Celebrities have been very vocal about the new president and the recent political climate.

Character Profile

Ashmaal is a run of the mill, average office worker for a stationary producing company. He lives by himself in a small sized house. He has has been working in the same position in his office for over 2 years. He is always over-shadowed by a fellow office worker who gets the promotions and recognition he clearly deserved. Slowly over the years his aggression has been building up towards the co-worker but due to his mild mannered nature he has managed to keep it suppressed. Until the day he feels completely humiliated at the office  while his co-workers is cheered for it, the same day the co-worker gets promoted to regional manager. He has lost all faith of justice and divine help and this aggression causes the character to finally snap and take a drastic action.

During the loops the character thinks he is living an ordinary day and doesn’t remember that he murdered his co-worker. He gets ready for office in his usual fashion but he does have a weird feeling throughout. His aggression is still on the brim but is not easily disclosed by his face or actions. As the loops continue, he gets increasingly terrified about what is happening and has no idea what to do. He tries to out-think the problem but is not too good at it.
